Wish Stories
A Horse of Course, Of Course a Horse!
Grace D. (age 5) from Albuquerque, NM knew what she wanted for her one true Wish. There was no doubt in her mind, not at all. If she could have anything in the whole world she would want to have her very own horse and one in particular-Cloudy.
Grace had been taking riding lessons and learning all about horses in Corrales. When she would ride she would take the reins of Cloudy, a beautiful white horse! She created a real bond with him and knew that someday he would be her very own.
Cloudy and grace were united as horse and rider on December 26, 2010 on a sunny day in Corrales. Grace had no idea that she would be receiving her horse that day, she though that she was just going to be able to share a Christmas carrot with Cloudy. To her surprise it was the day that Cloudy became her very own!
Grace takes Cloudy for their first walk.
A Forever Friend - Ryan's Wish
When Ryan (age 17) was interviewed in December of 2009 Wish options were a plenty for his family. For a many months he and his family planned to adapt their motor home to accommodate Ryan’s wheelchair but they decided they wanted something for Ryan that would make him smile everyday.
They decided that a puppy would be the perfect Wish for Ryan. Because of Ryan’s medical condition he is not able to go outside and play or be around things that could react to his sensitivities, and he definitely could not be around pet hair.
Ryan is presented his puppy Duke at his Wish party!
Ryan and new best friend Duke-up close and personal! He is so very soft!
The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of New Mexico partnered with Desert Waves Labradoodle's to find the perfect fit; a puppy that would not shed, would be a loyal companion and a friend forever for Ryan. With the support of Petland, Ryan was provided everything he needed to have the perfect pet!
Ryan’s mom Lori “ Looks forward to continuing the relationship with Make-A-Wish so we can make it possible for more kids to experience the love and joy Ryan (and all of us) have been blessed with!”
Jelly's Going Shopping!
Angelica “Jelly” age 12 is featured here with her shopping spree money on her Wish day April 14, 2010.
Shopping Spree Wishes are always a ton of fun. The Wish child is allotted six hours to shop! A limo will pick the Wish child and family up from their home and then the shopping begins! The child gets to choose wherever they would like to shop and wherever they would like to dine for lunch. The day is all about them!
Jelly had a good idea of what she wanted on her shopping spree (which also happened to be her birthday, talk about a great day!). She wanted a Nintendo Wii, games, a digital camera, a scooter and clothes. Jelly wanted to dine at the Japanese Kitchen to see a show! The chef put on a special show that entertained the entire family, and tasted wonderful!
Jelly had an amazing and intense day of shopping, and she purchased everything she wanted with money to spare, as many of the stores offered discounts and gift cards to extend her shopping experience (with a special thanks to Best Buy)!
The amount of money a child receives is a National Standard that is based on age; the older the child the more money they will receive. In this case Jelly received $1600. If the child has any siblings, they too will receive a small allotment ($50 each) to shop with, so that all children are included on the Wish day. No cash is given to the family; it is all handled by the Wish Granters. If the Wish Child is unable to spend their allotment of money they will then receive the remaining amount in the form of gift card.
